Sick leave

If you experience a health issue that causes temporary incapacity for work, you must contact your family doctor by phone or through the e-health service on the first day of illness to register the case. Sick leave certificates cannot be issued retroactively.

On public holidays and weekends, between 08:00 and 22:00, individuals working shifts who have mobile authentication access can call the family doctor’s advisory line for a personalized consultation. The doctor answering the call can make a note in the digital health record regarding the illness and the need for sick leave. After that, the person must contact their family doctor as soon as possible to confirm the request. It is important to note that the final decision on issuing the sick leave certificate rests solely with the family doctor.

If a patient has visited the emergency department (EMO) or called an ambulance, sick leave can be issued starting from the weekend. A corresponding medical certificate must be submitted to the family doctor within two days.
